How to Play Backgammon Online

Origin of Backgammon:

Backgammon is one of the oldest games in existence, alongside Go and Chess. It is probably about 5,000 years old and may well have originated in what today is Iraq — previously Mesopotamia. Recent evidence supporting this was found when these very early dice (made of human bones) were discovered in the area.

The board with its twenty-four points and thirty checkers (or pieces or men) has been around for a long time but the game has not always been called backgammon. Other games which used the same board were Senet and Mancala. The Romans were the first to make it truly popular with their version called “Duodecum Scripta et Tabulae” or “Tables” for short.

The word backgammon first appeared in print in 1645. No one knows for sure where the name came from, but most scholars agree that in all likelihood it comes from the Middle English baec = back and gamen = game.

Backgammon appears consistently in art throughout the second millennium, most famously in “The Garden of Earthly Delights” by Hieronymus Bosch and “The Triumph of Death” by Pieter Brueghel. Quite frequently it appears in tavern scenes and often there is a brawl going on — I wonder why that could be? Here it is in Steen’s “Backgammon Fight”:

The game continued to be played throughout the latter stages of the last millennium but it had constant battles with authorities and the church who wanted to ban it because of the gambling element — not too dissimilar to some areas of the world today, particularly since America brought in its crass and ludicrous Internet gambling laws.

However by the early 1920’s the game was losing its appeal. In the Roaring Twenties in New York City the games were just taking too long to play and it was difficult to wager (and therefore win) large amounts of money.

Beginner’s guides: How to play backgammon.

This post is another in our series for beginners and newcomers. At Deluxe Backgammon we are a team of intermediate players who enjoy regular social games of backgammon. Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, we regularly played in small groups in local cafes and pubs. Invariably, at some point, a small group of spectators would form to watch and talk about the game. Many people have some distant memory of the game, that they perhaps played on holidays in their youth. Others recall seeing the board with its rows of triangles sitting in the back of some dusty cupboard and wondered what the game was all about. One of the most common questions asked by those who have never played before is:

Is backgammon really that complicated game?

Backgammon is not complicated. It’s actually really simple but very deep in strategy, and is a great gambling game.

Basically, you roll two dice and you use any combination of the dice roll together or individual to move your chips in a clockwise motion around the board in an effort to get them all into the last quadrant, which then allows you to take them off the board. You cannot start taking chips off the board until all chips have reached your last quadrant.

You cannot land on areas with your opponents chips unless they are singles, and as such, you try to avoid having single chips exposed of your own. If a player lands their chip on an exposed single, that chip is removed from the board and goes back to start, and it can be really difficult to get those chips back on the board.

To summarize, your going one way, your opponent is going the other way, and along the way you can knock each others chips off the board which as the game goes later makes it difficult to get them back on the board because your opponents chips are building up in the area where you have to re-enter. 카지노사이트 After all, your first quadrant and where you start is your opponents last quadrant and where they end.

The first person to get all there chips off the board wins.

If playing for money (or multiple games with points), there is something called the doubling-cube. This basically allows you to end the game early if you’re way ahead. If you really think you’re going to win, you can ‘double’ the value of the game.

Example: Say you’re playing for $20.00. If you double, the game’s value is increased to $40.00. Your opponent must then make the choice to accept the new value of the game or concede you the game and give you the $20.00 you were playing for originally.

Today I noticed these backgammon tutorials on youtube in related videos section, I thought “oh, it’s that weird, classic game with spikes on board. Ok, let’s try…”. 3 tutorial parts and like 20 minutes later I’m only confused and as it seems, I’m not even halfway through the rules. For an old, classic game, this is some batshit crazy complicated stuff… I could teach someone D&D faster. Are these tutorials for real or I just stumbled upon some satire that makes fun of the game?
